In August the Moldovan lei depreciated by 0.2% against the US dollar on average to 19.2996 USD/MDL, as opposed to 19.2574 USD/MDL in July, IPN reports.
According to the National Bank of Moldova, the degree of covering the net demand of foreign currency on the part of business entities by the net supply from private individuals in August was 113.1%, as against 5.9% in July.
Against the previous month, the net supply from private individuals last month rose by US$ 89.4 million (+37.1%), while the net demand of foreign currency on the part of business entities grew by US$ 100.6 million (+52.5%). The National Bank intervened in the local interbank market and made net currency purchases of US$ 108.7 million.
