The Ministry of Education and Research (MEC) has launched a national campaign to promote university studies "Learn in Moldova". The aim of the campaign is to inform high school and college graduates about higher education opportunities available in Moldova and to encourage young people to opt for studies in our country, IPN reports.

"In recent years, the university education system has undergone a significant change and we are at the stage where we can say with certainty that we have something to offer to graduates," Education Minister Dan Perciun said at the launch event of the campaign.

Dan Perciun noted the upward trend in the number of students at the country's universities. Last year, 16 009 young people enrolled in undergraduate studies, 1 333 more than in 2023. The number of those choosing a college of education increased, 1 753 more than last year.

The MEC's target for this year is for six out of ten Moldovan students to stay at home, which would mean a 7% increase in the number of first-year enrolments.

The Minister of Education reports investments of over 350 million lei in modernizing universities. Renovation work is also to be carried out this year. They amount to 248 million lei, directed to equip laboratories or improve conditions in dormitories.

"We have universities that are competitive and recognized worldwide," says Dan Perciun. Five universities in the country are institutionally accredited by the Romanian Higher Education Quality Assurance Agency. The accredited institutions are USM, ASEM, Alecu Russo University, B. P. Hasdeu University and AMTAP. Also, the USMF "Nicolae Testemițeanu", which is internationally accredited and offers places to foreign students.

To encourage young people to study in Moldova, the Ministry of Education also recommends individual programs accredited by agencies in Romania, Estonia, Germany, as well as Erasmus programs.

The "Learn in Moldova" campaign will include a series of activities aimed at bringing universities closer to potential students. Open days will give young people the opportunity to visit universities, talk to professors and discover the opportunities Moldova's higher education system offers. University representatives will also visit high schools and colleges across the country to present their educational offers to graduates.
