The professional day of lawyers is annually marked on September 9. On this occasion, lawyers from all over Moldova will come together in the Park “Valea Morilor” in Chisinau to run around the lake dressed in T-shirts with the words “Lawyers for zero tolerance of corruption” that they will receive as a present, dean of the Chisinau Bar Association Emanoil Plosnita has told IPN.
According to him, the marathon is staged with the aim of giving a signal to society that the lawyers are for fighting corruption in the legal system and the bribe is not accepted by them. The race will continue until the last participant finishes running. There will be awarded no prizes. After the marathon, everyone will be invited to a coffee. Also on September 9, the Lawyers Union holds the Open Doors Day. Practicing lawyers and lawyers on probation are invited by the Union’s president Nina Lozan to a coffee to exchange impressions and share the joy of seeing the colleagues.
“I wish you tenacity and perseverance in practicing this noble profession even if the situation, reality and conditions are not always favorable for distinguishing ourselves, these being dictated by the same rigid system where the laws continue to be obeyed selectively and advocacy is not yet recognized as an equal part of justice and where decisions continue to be taken not only in courts of law,” Nina Lozan says in her congratulatory message disseminated on the occasion of the professional day of lawyers.
In the Republic of Moldova, there are over 2,000 practicing lawyers.
