Even if bilateral economic relations with Moldova are increasing there is still a potential to make economic cooperation more active, Latvian president Vaira Vike Freiberga affirmed during Moldovan-Latvian Economic Forum held on Tuesday, 4th of April in Chisinau. According to her, economic relation with Moldova is „a priority within neighboring policies promoted by EU”. President of Moldova, Vladimir Voronin, who attended the forum, mentioned that “lately similar forums were organized in Chisinau, but it is for the first time when so many businessmen gathered.” In his opinion, this forum represents the ideal framework for identifying new and attractive cooperation areas, which would contribute to increasing bilateral relations exchange. „One of the main objectives of our governmental program is to improve business environment by creating an appropriate legal and economic framework. This is one of Moldova’s engagements assumed as a result of negotiations with international institutions, as well. We are aware of the fact that only an attractive business climate will determine foreign companies to come to Moldova, in order to set long-term economic relations”, Vladimir Voronin mentioned. In the opinion of the head of international relations of Investment and Development Department of Latvia, Ralfs Dakters, priority fields of Moldovan-Latvian cooperation are car construction, metal processing, chemical and pharmaceutical industry, biotechnology, informational technologies, light industry and timber industry. About 200 businessmen of both countries attended the Moldovan-Latvian Economic Forum.
