“Latvian“ appointments for Moldova from EU and World Bank

High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission Josep Borrell today announced that Latvian national Janis Mazeiks will succeed Slovak official Peter Mihalko as the Head of Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova

Janis Mazeiks is currently Under-Secretary of State, Political Director in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia. He formerly served as Latvian Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York. Besides Latvian, he is fluent in English, French and Danish.

Also, the World Bank announced the appointment of Inguna Dobraja as the new Country Manager for Moldova. She replaces Anna Akhalkatsi, who was the World Bank Country Manager since August 2017 and is moving to Romania.

Ingun Dobraja, a Latvian national, served as the World Bank’s Country Manager for the Cambodia Country Office since 2016. Prior to that, between 2012 and 2016, she was the Country Manager for the Liberia Country Office and oversaw the launch of several large infrastructure projects and the response to and recovery from the Ebola epidemic of 2014 - 2015.

Inguna Dobraja has been with the World Bank for more than 25 years. She has professional experience in the managerial, operational, and corporate areas of the Bank spanning country offices, Bank program and portfolio management, extensive operational work. She holds a Master’s degree in Economics from University of Latvia and has the Executive Leadership Program diploma from the Harvard Business School.
