Latvia will aid Moldova in all cooperation areas with the European Union

The minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Petras Vaitiekunas, declared during a conference on Saturday, September 9, entitled “Moldova and Eastern Europe: reforms, integration, conflict solving and regional cooperation” that Latvia will support the Republic of Moldova in all key areas of cooperation with the European Union, including the implementation process of the Republic of Moldova – European Union action plan.
During the same press conference, the ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Andrei Stratan, declared that Latvia is a friend of the Republic of Moldova, and the attendance of his Latvian colleague to the seminary is a demonstration of the high level cooperation between the two countries.
The head of the Moldovan diplomacy mentioned that issues like the bilateral Moldovan-Latvian cooperation, especially taking into account the EU integration process, possible solutions to the Transnistrian conflict and participation in regional cooperation projects were discussed. The quality of the Moldovan-Latvian cooperation and the Latvian support for Moldova, expressed by the appointment of several experts in European integration process, were also mentioned.
Stratan also stated that the authorities from Vilnius and Chisinau will continue to strengthen bilateral cooperation, and this seminary was just an example of the potential and of the available mechanisms.
The seminary brought together high officials of the Republic of Moldova and key personalities in elaboration of the EU, US, neighboring countries and nongovernmental community’s politics.
The seminary attended by representatives of ministries of foreign affairs of the Republic of Moldova and Latvia, of the US German Marshall Fund and the Eurasian foundation was held behind closed doors.
The discussions held during the seminary revolved around economic reforms, ways of attracting foreign investments and diversification of export, broadening commercial relations with the EU, negotiations on a free-exchange agreement, regional cooperation, the realization of the RM – EU Action Plan and the solution to the Transnistrian conflict.
