The lack of a clear position on the European course on the part of the Moldovan people inhibits this process and even endangers Moldova’s integration into the EU. Such statements were made in the talk show “European horizon” on TVR Moldova channel, IPN reports.

Political analyst Cristian Unteanu believes that most of the Moldovans want Moldova to become integrated into the EU, but no clear actions are taken in this direction. “Time is ticking away to the detriment of the European course. I think the Moldovans are waiting to really see Europe. They no longer want to be ‘fed’ on speeches and films. The Moldovan authorities should take concrete measures to convince the European Union that they really want the country to integrate into it, especially in the current conditions. The EU’s money for the Eastern Partnership has been practically used up and the enlargement enthusiasm is no longer so great. Thus, Chisinau will have to make enormous effort,” stated the analyst.

Petrisor Peiu, economic expert of the Black Sea University Foundation, said Romania should stop providing financial assistance to Moldova. “What is happening in Ukraine has an impact on Moldova. But the EU will not neglect the effort made by Chisinau if this shows that it really wants to become integrated. The EU will adopt a different approach in this case compared with the other EaP countries. There are dangerous signals that Moldova could enter recession. Bucharest should align itself with the position of the EU concerning the financial support for Moldova. A country that does not reform at least its justice sector should not be supported unconditionally,” he stated.
