The doors of the Kremlin will open for the Moldovan authorities only when they give up signing the Association Agreement with the European Union. The Russian Federation will continue to maintain the economic constraints on Moldova without providing clear explanations. The issues were developed by political analysts invited to the program “Politica” on TV7 channel, IPN reports.

Political analyst Arcadie Barbarosie said the Moldovan officials go where they are awaited and where they receive the promised support as they do not expect to obtain support from the East, so as to win votes. “There is a limit. I’m convinced that only the guaranteed statements that Moldova will not sign the Association Agreement will open the Kremlin’s doors. Our wine is not poison for the ban to be maintained,” he stated.

Expert Igor Botan, executive director of the Association for Participatory Democracy ADEPT, said that while the Moldovan officials pay more often visits to the West, the relations with Russia are worsening. At the same time, Russia started to erect commercial obstacles after Moldova announced its determined decision to associate itself with the EU. “The government is making permanent effort to maintain the dialogue with Russia, but Russia has a cold attitude as it protects its interests in the region and we cannot oblige it to behave in a different way,” he stated.

Political analyst Bogdan Tirdea said that Moldova faces a very serious problem related to the migrants from Russia, who risk losing their jobs. Moldova will lose revenues from the remittances of about 1 billion lei sent by the migrant workers. The wines and the Transnistrian issue are also serious problems. “We should not forget about the dimension of the statements made in Ukraine, according to which the Transnistrian region is an area of interest because 30% of its residents are Ukrainians and this region was Ukrainian territory. Such statements should be verified so as to avoid risks from the start,” he stated.

He underlined that Moldova is in the rather important area of influence of Russia and, beyond the visits to the U.S. and the EU, the Moldovan authorities should immediately focus on the existing problems that can create real tensions in the near future.
