Komsomol statue won't be removed for now

The Supreme Justice Court rejected today the appeal of the Chisinau City Council, thus upholding the decision of the Court of Appeals to suspend the relocation of the monument to the Komsomol in Chisinau. The Court of Appeals is now to pronounce a decision on the merits to clarify the issue. The decision is expected in September or sometime earlier, said Vitalie Salaru, senior legal specialist at the City Hall. “It is a victory for us”, said Mihail Poleanschi, representative for the Young Moldova organization, a local successor to the Komsomol. “Today's decision is crucial for the preservation of the monument”. The City Council intends to relocate the statue of the Komsomol, currently situated on Grigovre Vieru Boulevard, to Moldexpo, near Lenin's statue.
