The special plane of the President of Romania Klaus Iohannis landed at the Chisinau International Airport at 3pm. At the airport, the Romanian official was met by Romania’s Ambassador to Moldova Marius Lazurca. Afterward, Klaus Iohannis was met with bread and salt and with military honors at the State Residence, where President Nicolae Timofti was waiting for him. The guard of honor played the anthems of Romania and Moldova. After a bilateral meeting, the two officials will give a joint news conference, IPN reports.
Later today, the Romanian head of state will have a meeting with Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici and will then take part in an official diner held by Nicolae Timofti at the winery “Cricova”.
Tomorrow, February 25, Klaus Iohannis will meet with the chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party Vlad Filat, the chairman of the Democratic Party Marian Lupu, the leader of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu, and with Head of Parliament Andrian Candu.
After the meetings, the Romanian President will lay flowers at the monument to Stephan the Great and Holy in Chisinau and will then deliver a speech before students of the State University. At 12:50pm, the Romanian head of state’s plane will take off for Bucharest.
The Romanian President’s official visit to Moldova was to take place on January 22-23, but was proponed because the new Government of Moldova hadn’t been yet installed.
Klaus Iohannis made a visit to Moldova last year, after he was elected President of Romania. He came to Chisinau at the invitation of Vlad Filat on November 28, two days before the legislative elections.
