This summer’s floods caused damage assessed at US$120 million. Such a figure was reported by the governmental working groups that made the assessments, Info-Prim Neo reports.
First Deputy Prime Minister and Minster of Economy and Trade Igor Dodon said that 20% of the US$120 million damage represents damage caused to the infrastructure (roads and access ways), 15% is damage to arable fields and 65% is damage to real estate (houses, villas, shops, summer camps and resorts, recreational areas, sanatoriums).
According to Igor Dodon, a top priority of the authorities is to provide the people affected by floods with houses until winter. The latest reports say that 149 houses are in need of repair, while 242 families need new dwellings. Fifty-seven houses have been purchased so far and 64 houses are under negotiation.
“To buy the houses is the quickest and safest method of solving the problem. Therefore, the state will make sure that the flood victims are provided with purchased dwellings in their villages or in any other settlement of Moldova, as they wish,” Igor Dodon said.
The flood waters affected 3,318 hectares of arable fields belonging to economic entities and 1,514 hectares of land belonging to private individuals. The individuals that lost their crops as a result of floods will receive compensations, whose size and the method of distributing them will be fixed the next days.
