Prime Minister Dorin Recean’s statement by which he mentioned the names of the judges who annulled the CES’s decision to exclude the Chance Party from the electoral competition represents a serious violation of the principle of separation of powers in the state and of judiciary independence, said the Association of Judges of the Republic of Moldova, which expressed its profound  concern and disapproval of the assertions made by the Premier on Wednesday, IPN reports.

“We note that the independence of the judicial system is a fundamental pillar of the rule of law. The attacks made against the judges, even the verbal ones, by members of the executive or by other authorities undermine public confidence in justice and can have a harmful effect on the impartiality and efficiency of the judicial system,” the Association said in a statement.

It asks that the rule of law principles should be obeyed and that judicial independence should be defended, noting it is essential that all the state authorities should cooperate in the spirit of the law and mutual respect, guaranteeing this way equitable and impartial justice for all the citizens.

“As the representatives of the judges of the Republic of Moldova, we express our solidarity with our mates and reiterate our firm commitment to defend the professional integrity and independence of the judge,” runs the statement.

Prime Minister Dorin Recean, at the start of the ordinary meeting of the Cabinet, mentioned the names of the judges who invalidated the decision by which the Commission for Exceptional Situations (CES) excluded the Chance Party from the competition for the November 5 local elections. “I ask you to remember three names: Palanciuc Ecaterina, Negru Veronica and Dutca Ina. This panel of judges of the Appeals Court yesterday decided to annul the Commission for Exceptional Situations’ decision by which they intervened and ended the criminal activity and criminal groupings’ interference in the local election process in the Republic of Moldova,” stated Premier Recean.
