A 1,700 years old manuscript discovered recently, shows that Judah has acted on Christ’s advice and completed a divine mission. The manuscript, the single known copy of Judah’s Gospel, famous character of the New Testament who is thought to have betrayed Jesus, will be published in the National Geographic magazine in May.
Experts confirmed that the document, having 25 pages and written on papyrus in a dialect, dates back to II or IV century A.D., but transcripts an older document that was written in Greek. The text says that Judah was an adept, who betrayed Jesus on his advice. "You will rise above all. You will sacrifice the man who incarnated me", Jesus possibly said to Judah, this sentence showing, according to experts, that Judah contributed to setting free of Jesus spirit and helped him to get rid of his carnal figure.
"New Testament shows Judah as a man engaged in a wicked betrayal act. The manuscript proves that he did not commit any betrayal, but did the most generous act for Jesus," the chairman of the North Carolina University, Bart Ehrman, mentioned.
Experts say that the text gives a new perspective over the New Testament.
