The chairman of the European People’s Party of Moldova (EPPM) Iurie Leanca called upon the Moldovan electors to vote for the candidate for President of the Party “Action and Solidarity” Maia Sandu in the runoff elections. “Today, I phoned Maia Sandu and congratulated her. I told her that we are ready to help her in any form she may ask,” the ex-candidate for President said in a news conference on October 31, IPN reports.

Iurie Leanca admitted that his electoral score is low, saying that when he decided to stay in the race, even if he realized that such a score could damage his political career, he considered it is more important to struggle for Moldova’s European future at a time when there were risks that Igor Dodon will win the elections by the first round. His voters could orient themselves not necessarily to Maia Sandu.

“I wanted to avoid at all costs Dodon’s victory in the first round and I would like to think that I also played a role in stopping the triumphalist march of the Socialist. Owing to the Moldovans, including those who voted for me, Maia Sandu has the chance to struggle with Igor Dodon and to gain the percentage that separates them. Let’s not miss this chance,” said the politician.

The leader of the EPPM called on the people to vote for the path to the West and the European Union. He said Maia Sandu is the last chance to avoid Igor Dodon’s rule in the Republic of Moldova.

With 99.42% of the votes cast in the presidential elections counted, Igor Dodon is given a score of 48.23% of the ballot, Maia Sandu of 38.42%, while Iurie Leanca of 3.11%.
