The Republic of Moldova must choose between the West and the East and there is no other third path, the candidate for President of the European People's Party of Moldova (PPEM) Iurie Leanca stated in the talk show "Pahomi” on Realitatea TV channel, IPN reports.
The politician said Moldova must choose the West. "This means higher living standards, higher salaries. We must not mix up the idea of European integration with those who corrupted this idea," he said.
Iurie Leanca noted that he is for maintaining good relations with the Russian Federation, but Moldova does not have development prospects allongside this country. "As a diplomat, I know very well the importance of Russia at world level. But about three years ago Russia entered a phase of decline. It faces financial problems and has insufficient resources for paying salaries and pensions. I do not want Moldova to quarrel with Russia, but we must orient ourselves to the West," he stated.
Asked if the PPEM supports the current government or is an opposition party, Iurie Leanca said he just wants the people to live better. "I do not start a fire for the sake of a fire," he noted.
