Prime Minister Iurie Leanca instructed the Mistily of Agriculture, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Economy to draft a bill for amending the legislation, by which to eliminate the tax of 1.5% on the export of walnuts, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from the Government, the Premier ordered annulling the given tax as a result of the consultations held with representatives of the business sector within the Economic Council. The Premier said the tax put on the export of walnuts is old and represents a barrier to exports and increases the cost of exports.

The elimination of the tax is in line with the commitments made by Moldova as a member of the World Trade Organization. In accordance with the signed agreements, Moldova liberalized the regime for exporting goods and no tax can be imposed on exports.

Moldova exports annually 11,000-13,000 tonnes of walnuts, which is 2% of the exports. Almost the entire quantity is sold to the European Union.
