Former first deputy chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) Iurie Leanca does not rule out the possibility that some of the Liberal-Democratic MPs and members of the Government will join the European People’s Party that he launched on March 23. The ex-Premier made such statements in the program “Public eye” on Noroc TV channel, IPN reports.
According to Iurie Leanca, the current Cabinet will not cope with the situation and will be dismissed in the near future. “I think that our party will have not only two MPs. There are enough preconditions for the number of lawmakers in our party to increase. The life of the minority government will be short. Forecasts show that it will work for two-three months. The PLDM-PDM alliance will not resist the economic and political pressure,” he stated.
Iurie Leanca considers that the current government coalition will also not be able to cope with the reforms. “I wanted to return to the Government in order to continue to implement the initiated reforms. The people understood that they need these reforms. A minority coalition and a government without political support will not manage to do reforms,” said the lawmaker.
The former Prime Minister noted that he is against putting off the local elections. “There are no justifiable reasons for poisoning the local elections. We must respect the legislation, which says that the local elections must take place by the middle of this October. The wish to implement the territorial-administrative reform cannot serve as reason for delaying the elections. Moreover, the conception of this reform was finished and could be implemented by autumn,” he stated.
In a news conference on March 23, Iurie Leanca launched his political project – the European People’s Party of Moldova. The party’s initiative group consists of Eugen Carpov, Oazu Nantoi, Victor Lutenco, Octavian Ticu, Victor Chirila, Eugen Sturza, Eremei Priseajniuc, Valeriu Chiveri, Iulian Groza, Ruslan Codreanu, Veronica Cretu, Viorel Roscovan, Adrian Filat and others.
