Iurie Leanca has announced the creation of the electoral bloc “European People’s Platform of Moldova – Iurie Leanca” for the June 14 general local elections. The bloc includes the European People’s Party of Moldova, the “Democratic Action” Party, the Liberal Reformist Party, and the Party “Democracy at Home”. In a news conference on April 15, Iurie Leanca said the bloc is also supported by the People’s Force Party, which cannot yet join it owing to legal problems, IPN reports.
According to Iurie Leanca, the electoral bloc was created in order to ensure the participation of his political party in the local general elections as this is not possible otherwise. The date of June 14 was chosen by Parliament also with the aim of thwarting the participation of the European People’s Party of Moldova in these elections. The partners insisted that the name of the bloc should include “Iurie Leanca” so that it could be easily identified given that there is not much time until the elections for promoting the image and identity of the newly created bloc.
Ion Hadarca, chairman of the Liberal Reformist Party, said the party’s National Political Council in a meeting on April 14 decided to take part in this electoral bloc and to field Iurie Leanca as chairman of the Political Council of the newly formed bloc. The bloc intends to assume real responsibility before the people.
Mihai Godea, who heads the “Democratic Action” Party, said that by creating this bloc, they restored Moldova’s chance to look at a European future. The bloc’s goal is to create a base that will enable to decentralize the power, which is an aspect of democracy.
Vasile Costiuc, chairman of the Party “Democracy at Home”, reminded the Liberal Democratic Party’s slogan used six year ago “Moldova without poverty, Moldova without Communists”. He said that those who disseminated this message and assumed the role of taking Moldova to the EU actually discredited this idea.
The bloc is to make public its candidates for the posts of mayors of settlements. Iurie Leanca noted he will not run for the mayoralty of Chisinau.
