Iurie Gradinar is the only Moldovan athlete who medaled at the Lignano Karate Open tournament in Italy, IPN reports.
He won a gold medal and pushed Moldova to the seventh spot in the medal standing. The competition involved 330 athletes from 20 countries. Italy topped the rankings with 295 won medals, being followed by Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Luxemburg and Belgium.
Iurie Gradinar will also represent the Republic of Moldova at the World Karate Youth Championship that will take place in Spain’s Tenerife in October.
