The economic analyst of the Association for Participatory Democracy (ADEPT), Iurie Gotisan, considers that banks will suffer serious losses if the wine crisis challenged by Russia’s restrictions on Moldovan wine imports is not rapidly settled. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo to comment the situation of crisis, possible consequences and solutions in banking sector, Gotisan said that banks which have credited wine producers and exporters with large finances will suffer losses first of all. In addition, banks will have less available liquidities because large wine producers have transacted large amounts via banking sector. Also, Gotisan fears that if the interdiction of exports to the Russian market makes wine enterprises stop working and incapable to reimburse credits, banks could introduce higher taxes and commissions on credits for wine makers in future than at present in order to recover their resources. He underlined that the old adage „banks never lose” may be true in this situation. Asked what the government may do to mediate the relations between banks and producers/exporters of wines, the analyst said that the executive should officially guarantee in continuation the credits contracted by producers/exporters. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, administrations of a number of banks, including Moldova-Agroinbank, Savings Bank, Moldinconbank, Banca Sociala said they would not say how the wine crisis could affect their work and what would be the solutions to this situation.
