The Republic of Moldova should be prepared for absorbing pre-accession funds, says Iurie Calestru, president of the Project Development and Expertise Institute (IDEP Moldova). According to him, Moldovan authorities and civil society need to step up their efforts to increase the potential of attracting EU-funded projects.

One of IDEP’s priorities is to attract regional and local development projects that contribute to the country’s approach to the European Union. To this effect, IDEP Moldova organizes discussion forums with experts from Romania who share their country’s pre-accession experience

“One of the priority development directions of IDEP Moldova is to identify solutions for absorbing European funds available for the Republic of Moldova. We as a country need to be ready with teams that have skills in the field of project management, the necessary documents, the understanding of the necessary steps to be followed for the absorption of European funds, so that we can assimilate and capitalize 100% of the funds offered by the European Union. This is our goal in the coming period, to create favorable conditions for this to happen, and for the funds offered by taxpayers from the European Union to reach their destination directly, to the citizens of the Republic of Moldova”, Iurie Calestru told a press conference on Monday.

Discussion forums on the adoption of Romania’s good practices in the field of pre-accession took place in Bucharest, Iași, Baia Mare, Bacău, Bârlad and other Romanian cities. Members of local authorities, of medical and educational institutions from Moldova participate in the discussions, so that they are as prepared as possible for the submission of projects and attraction of European funds.

“Now, in these conditions of uncertainty and multidimensional risks, we must support the central authorities of the Republic of Moldova, to stay on the civilized side of Europe, which is possible thanks to the projects financed by the European Union”, declared Iurie Calestru .

IDEP Moldova is an apolitical organization whose mission is to coagulate the efforts of a large number of experts, representatives of the academic community, opinion leaders and representatives of civil society, in activities aimed at regional and local development.
