“We haven’t yet managed to enter all the gates of Eminescu’s universe. We continue to learn the lesson of Eminescu,” writer Iulian Filip stated on the occasion of the 169th anniversary of the poet’s birth that was celebrated on January 15. The writer said the people should realize that we are among the few countries that have emblematic personalities of such a value, IPN reports.

“These two calendar pretexts – January 15, the poet’s birthday, and June 15, the day of his death – come to additionally emphasize this treasure we have, this luck of having Eminescu as a point of reference,” the writer said in the program “Country” on Vocea Basarabiei TV channel.

Marcela Mardare, director of the publishing house Pontos, noted poet Mihai Eminescu is like a pyramid of the Romanian culture whose peak may never be reached. “Eminescu is profound. He is the one who opened up many ways to us, as Nicolae Iorga said. He is the expression of the Romanian soul. He is a very profound soul of the nation and no one can ever fully discover him,” she stated.

Poets, writers, composers and politicians on January 15 laid flowers at Mihai Eminescu’s bust on the Alley of Classics in the central park of Chisinau. On the 169th anniversary of the poet’s birth, those attending recited poems written by Mihai Eminescu and poems dedicated to the great bard.
