“The head of state must have a meeting with the parliamentary parties so as to designate a candidate for the post of Prime Minister. Until then the factions should hold negotiations and come with a result. Surely, the ideal result wanted by everyone is for the three pro-European parties – the PLDM, PL and PDM – to form a government coalition, but this thing should be realized also by the political parties,” the deputy head of the Center for Strategic Analysis and Political Consultancy “Politicon” Ion Tabarta has told IPN.

The expert said that if a coalition between the pro-European parties is not formed, the scenarios will be more complicated. A scenario is the investiture of the Government with the help of the Communists. “Judging by the events that happened today in Parliament and by the statements made after the sitting, the Communists can vote, but will impose a lot of conditions as regards the government program and the composition of the Cabinet. This would make things much more difficult and the government will not be the declared European one,” he stated.

Ion Tabarta noted that another scenario that is not wanted by many people is to form a PCRM-PDM-PSRM coalition, but now such a coalition is possible. This coalition would thus thwart Moldova’s European integration plans. “If a consensus in the two scenarios is not reached – either a government created by the three pro-European parties or a government voted in with the help of the Communists on particular conditions, we will have early parliamentary elections.

The expert noted that the early elections are to Moldova’s detriment, but Russia is waiting for such a scenario so that the pro-Russian parties could poll more votes than in the November 30, 2014 elections amid the Moldovan voters’ dissatisfaction with the behavior of the pro-European parties after these elections.

The time frames for talking a decision are rather tight. According to interpretations, the Government must be invested by March 10 or March 30 at the latest. If a Government is not voted in by then, Parliament will be dissolved and early elections will be announced.
