Members of the public association “Force of War Veterans for Nation and Country” deny the statements made earlier by a group of people, according to which the draft law on war veterans, which was given a first reading by the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, deprives veterans of a number of benefits. The participants in a news conference hosted by IPN said that the draft law institutes changes that will improve the situation of war veterans, specifying that this is the first time that this category of citizens has a separate law.

The leader of the local organization “Force of War Veterans for the Nation and Country” Nisporeni Vladimir Buga, a member of the working group for working out the concept of the law on war veterans, said that, so far, the war veterans have not had a law designed for them. He expressed his confidence that it will be given a final reading and adopted in the autumn of this year.

“All the social protection changes that are being made could not even be imagined before 2018. We then received by 100 lei each for ten years in a row. Today our allowance is 1,250 lei and the draft law says that on January 1, 2025 it will rise to 2,000 lei. Moreover, in the same year 2018, the budget for the social protection of war veterans was 68 million. Today it is 10 times larger and, when the new bill is adopted, around 400 million will be added. So, the current government, however, takes care of us. And now that this law is close to being passed, we receive a blow from our colleagues, also veterans,” stated Vladimir Buga.

The deputy chairman of the “Force of War Veterans for Nation and Country” Movement Andrei Eremia underlined the importance of having a special law for war veterans. Although the law does not fully cover the requests of war veterans, they accept it, given the potential of the Republic of Moldova and the available resources. Free trips by public transport and sanatorium treatment tickets will be offered in the form of monetary allowances so that everyone can afford to purchase the services they need.

The representative of the Cantemir local organization Iurii Tabac said that 30 years ago, the veterans did not have a say. Some of the veterans, involved in politics, did business to survive, while the veterans in villages and districts were completely ignored. Currently, however, all the ‘awakened’ veterans rose due to the current leadership of the “Force of War Veterans for Nation and Country”. “We will see who are real veterans with a heart for the country and for the European path and who are the veterans who sold our country and who still sell it to politicians, who receive money from abroad only to destabilize us, so that we do not have a normal life in the future,” said Iurii Tabac, addressing society.
