Independent candidate for President Irina Vlah launched her campaign for the presidential election on Sunday in Naslavcea, which is the northernmost locality of the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports.

“In the village of Naslavcea, my campaign for the presidential election officially began. I planned to hold the event on the “Heart of the Nistry” observation platform, but the authorities resorted to a provocation, and the police blocked our access to the place,” Irina Vlah wrote on social media.

According to the candidate, the people who love their country and who are ready to fight for a different future – a future of a peaceful and prosperous Moldova - gathered in Naslavcea. “Such people are in the majority. And we have seen this in the past six months, during the hundreds of meetings we had in all districts of the country. The current regime is already a thing of the past. On October 20, we will turn this page and start the reconstruction of the country,” noted Irina Vlah.

The candidate plans to end her campaign in Giurgiulesti, the southernmost locality of the country. “From the Nistru to the Danube, this is our road, which will culminate in victory!", said Irina Vlah.

The General Police Inspectorate denied the candidate’s accusations that it restricted her access to the “Heart of the Nistru”" observation platform, where the campaign launch was to take place. “The police did not intervene and had no communication with the people there. Moreover, we urge the election contestant to substantiate her accusations, at least by publishing video sequences or photos of the policeman who allegedly “prevented the holding of the event,” reads a press release of the Inspectorate.

On the other hand, the Border Police’s comment suggests that the candidate’s staff did not obtain the necessary prior approval for access to the border area. “People who do not have a residence visa in the region must obtain an access permit. It is important that all the necessary documents be presented on time so as to avoid any inconveniences,” said the Border Police.
