John Bolton, National Security Adviser to US President, is on an official visit to Moldova. After the official meeting with Prime Minister Maia Sandu at 08:15, a joint press conference will be held.
Within the framework of "Relations of the Republic of Moldova with development partners" project supported by Hans Seiddel German Foundation, IPN Press Agency discusses in a video interview with Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration. The official wants “the Republic of Moldova to turn from recipient of assistance into donor” and maintains that “the Government intends to build Europe at home”. He plans to visit in the coming weeks Washington, Moscow and Berlin and believes that we have to be very cautious about Transnistrian regulation. Undoubtedly, we are interested in advancing as rapidly as possible in our cooperation with Romania, the minister says.
Currently, the Republic of Moldova is at the level of 1982 judging by the value of the Gross Domestic Product, at comparable prices. With the current GDP growth rate of 4.5%, the Republic of Moldova needs many years to catch up with the Baltic countries, with which it shared the same starting point upon gaining independence. Alexandru Arseni, signatory of the Declaration of Independence and member of the first Parliament argues that from the very beginning the country’s leadership at the time did not envisage economic and energy supply independence. IPN Director Valeriu Vasilică noted at a press conference that after granting the national awards, for six minutes Prime Minister Maia Sandu has been "bombarded" with 13 well-targeted questions (by Publika TV): more than 2 questions a minute. Maia Sandu resisted the bombardment, the author said, yet she didn't walk away unscathed, without her image being affected. That begs several questions and conclusions…While in opposition, the PDM has lost the opportunity to insolently and aggressively attack and restrict the activity of "unfriendly" media, yet this "loss" can be turned into an advantage, because, as a rule, the public and media consumers favour the opposition party more than the government. The question is whether the current government, especially the ACUM bloc, understands with whom it is fighting for "the hearts, souls, minds and votes of the citizens", for the "deoligarchization and decapture of the state", if it has a proper media policy and the personnel that would not have allowed the above mentioned situation to occur, or at least would prevent in the future similar situations in which the prime minister or other important government officials could be involved?
The agenda of the priority reforms and the basic objectives to be dealt with by the government comprises at least five main directions: the justice reform and ensuring human rights, fighting corruption and institutions in the service of citizens, economic development and enhancing social equity, strengthening neutrality and reintegrating the country, promoting a balanced foreign policy. This was mentioned by President Igor Dodon in his speech on Independence Day at the official reception on August 27th.
DA Platform and PAS, ACUM electoral bloc, has been registered for participation in the snap parliamentary elections of October 20. A decision to this effect was approved today, August 28, by the Central Election Commission. Previously, the two parties decided to participate within the ACUM Bloc in the general local elections on October 20 as well. According to PAS, the submission of documents to CEC for the registration of the Bloc will be made when the constituents, in accordance with the provisions of their statutes, agree on the majority of the joint candidates in the local elections.
Liberal Reformist Party (PLR), led by Ion Hadârcă, became the Romanian Popular Party, and has a new leader - the political commentator Vlad Turcanu, former presidential adviser. Vlad Turcanu says that the Romanian Popular Party intervenes on the Moldovan political scene to promote a balanced, but firm, pro-Romanian policy to defend the legitimate interests of the majority of population in the Republic of Moldova. The party’s vice-chairmen were elected: leader of the National Unity Bloc, Ion Leașcenco, historian Ion Varta, leader of Moldova’s Young People Civic Movement, Anatol Ursu, former vice-chairs of PLR, Tatiana Potîng, Oleg Bodrug, and former PLR MPs Valeriu Saharneanu and Ana Bejan.
Justice Minister Olesea Stamate presented a new concept of justice sector reform. On this occasion, Prime Minister Maia Sandu stated that justice reform is required for the functioning of other sectors and institutions. She added that the reform is crucial for restoring the trust of the citizens in the state. "We need an independent and autonomous justice, which is carried out by honest and professional judges", said Maia Sandu. Based on the reform concept, a series of draft laws have been developed, which will be subject to public debates, then introduced in Parliament for examination and adoption.
The interactive alphabet books, promised by authorities and supposed to reach schools by September 1st, have not been printed. Due to violations of the principles of evaluation, as it was found. Minister Liliana Nicolaescu-Onofrei says she does not want to give any explanations or more details on what happened previously.
