IPN on August 28 published an OP-ED article entitled “Moldova on 26th anniversary of independence: between sustainability and Europeanization” signed by expert in political sciences Dionis Cenusa. The article says the country’s independence, celebrated on August 27, is the most suitable moment for assessing the maturity of society and sustainability of the state construction. The improper functioning of institutions, more dispersed social cohesion or colonization of democratic institutions by the obscure interests produced a series of systemic fragilities. The author considers the Europeanization contains the ingredients needed to modernize the country and, respectively, to eliminate the fragilities that make Moldova non-attractive for the own citizens. But Europeanization cannot be ensured by the EU, but with its assistance and can be effected by the Moldovan political class. According to him, after 26 years of independence, Moldova can yet recover some of the lost development opportunities, but only if the citizens manage to replace in a qualitative way the political class so that the country’s Europeanization is not mimicked, diluted, postponed or, in general, abandoned. The pro-Russian forces can insist, but there is no other more successful development model in the region for a country interested in democracy than the instruments that represent the European integration.

The General Police Inspectorate bought ten Ford Tranzit cars for transporting arrested persons under investigation. The contracts for the delivery of the vehicles were signed recently as a result of a tender contest. The vehicles are to be delivered in the nearest future. In a response to IPN News Agency, the chief of the General Police Inspectorate Alexandru Panzari said the units of transport possessed by the Inspectorate are old. The new acquisition will help improve the safe transportation of arrestees and create appropriate working conditions for the police employees involved in this process. Last December, the Government and the European Commission signed an agreement for financing the police reform to the value of €2 million. The modernization of remand prisons and temporary detention cells of police inspectorates and renewal of vehicles for transporting investigated persons are among the measures planned to be carried out within this reform.

Former Prime Minister Valeriu Muravski considers the Republic of Moldova missed a big chance of coming closer to the European Union in 2009-2012. According to him, if they had followed the promised path from the very beginning, after 2020-2025 Moldova could have been integrated into the EU. Valeriu Muravski said he counts on at least a part of the Moldovans who went to the West. If at least some of them return hypothetically, about 25%, it would be much easier to change things in the country. Asked what the Moldovan economy lacks now to be functional, the ex-Premier noted that everything shroud be change. If another political class and other parties do not come, changes will not be possible. Valeriu Muravski sees his future only in the process of integration and rapprochement with the European Union.

Political analyst Anatol Taranu considers the parliamentary elections of 2018 make the Democratic Party (PDM) and President Igor Dodon to follow different paths and have different interests. In the program “People’s Council” on 10TV channel, Anatol Taranu said we could witness a real war between the two political forces – the PDM and President Igor Dodon. According to the analyst, the pro-European democratic forces in the Republic of Moldova should find a formula to reduce Igor Dodon’s influence to non-dangerous levels for the country’s European course. The analyst also said that after the elections of 2018 there will be a coalition government, but it is not known who the allies will be: the PDM with the Party of Socialists, the PDM with the parties of the right or the latter will form a coalition with the Socialists to destroy Vladimir Plahotniuc.
