July 1: Over 17 million lei will be transferred to the municipal budget as a result of the new public tender contest staged by the Chisinau City Hall. It goes to the obtaining of the right to place ambulatory trading units on the streets of the capital city. By 17 and 30 lots were exhibited at the two contests to assign places for kiosks, terraces, ambulatory units providing recreational services and other units on the streets, in parks and squares, near green areas and lakes. The most expensive lots were assigned for 2.9 million lei, and, respectively, 2.6 million lei. The contracts for placing kiosks, terraces and trailers are valid for a five-year period.
July 4: Works to build a playground are carried out at the intersection of the streets Decebal and Dacia in Botanica district of Chisinau. Works to set up fitness/workout grounds are executed in the same area. The Public Amenities Division said the works are performed as part of the special purpose municipal program to build playgrounds in public places and green areas. The works at the intersection of the streets Decebal and Dacia will be completed within two weeks. The works on another playground and fitness/workout grounds at 24 Valea Crucii St are close to completion. Only urban furniture is to be set up there. Works are also performed to build sidewalks and to place curbs.
July 5: More than 5,000 teachers from the Republic of Moldova, Romania, Serbia and Georgia involved students in different educational activities as part of the crossborder project “Online Education Without Borders”. The activities were based on video lessons and interactive materials created for the archive of the Digital Library “Online Education”. The project was the first response reaction of the municipality of Chisinau to the pandemic crisis and was aimed at developing key skills for a successful career in the 21st century, it was noted in an international project summing up conference, the 2022 edition.
July 7: The People’s Republic of China donated a state-of-the-art intensive care ventilator made in 2022, to the value of 709,300 lei, to the Municipal Clinical Hospital of Contagious Diseases for Children. The hospital’s director Ludmila Bîrca, senior infectious disease doctor, said that this equipment is indispensable to the Intensive Care and Reanimatology Unit and is necessary primarily during the COVID-19 pandemic, when children with respiratory insufficiency are admitted to their hospital. She thanked the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China for this generous donation, noting that the ventilator will be used in serious cases. The mayor of Chisinau Ion Ceban said the Municipal Clinical Hospital of Contagious Diseases for Children is the only health facility of this type in Moldova. “It was on the frontline during the pandemic. That’s why the equipment is very necessary, especially in critical moments, such as those related to COVID-19”, said the mayor.
July 8: Works to kill rates and insects and to disinfect areas started in basements and waste collection rooms in apartment buildings of Chisinau. The General Public Amenities Division said the works will last until October. According to the Division, employees will perform such works in over 2,300 blocks of flats. When the planned works are completed, additional works will be executed at the request of residents of the capital city. A sum of 3 million lei was allocated from the 2022 municipal budget for carrying out works to kill rates and insects. The company that executes the works was chosen at a public tender contest in accordance with the current legislation.
July 11: First-fourth graders could use free season tickets during vacation as well. The head of the General Public Transport and Communications Division Vitalie Mihalache, said the season tickets for the first-fourth graders will be issued in educational institutions, at the parents’ request. It was decided to distribute this type of season ticket in summer. This way the students will be able to travel freely during the summer vacation too, when they go to extracurricular activities.
July 13: As from August 1, the elevator maintenance charge in the housing sector of Chisinau will be 27 lei, up from 15 lei at present, as the Municipal Council decided following the examination of a report on the financial situation of the municipal enterprise “Liftservice”. The enterprise’s acting manager Petru Budurin, in the meeting of the Council, said that “Liftservice” has sustained losses since 2020. In the first five months of this year alone, the losses amounted to 608,000 lei. The current charge was approved by the Council back in 2009.
July 18: A street in Chisinau’s Buiucani sector will be transformed into a pedestrian street, akin to Eugen Doga Street in the downtown, and at least three buildings that are national or municipal landmarks will be rehabilitated. These are some of the measures laid out in the city’s tourism development strategy, presented by the the Chisinau City Hall. The strategy envisages the launch of several tourist routes, both pedestrian and thematic. A mobile application that will be used by the passengers of the tourist trolleybus is one of the projects included in the strategy. The audio guide can be accessed through the application in several languages: Romanian, English, French, Russian, etc.
July 18: The Republic of Moldova was delivered 30 bactericidal recirculators that will be set up in public transport units. By September 2022, the Chisinau City Hall will receive a total of 680 bactericidal recirculators that will be installed in about 340 buses and trolleybuses. The equipment was bought in the framework of the EU-funded Project “MOVE IT like Lublin” to modernize the public transport system of the municipality of Chisinau. The value of the project is over €80,000. Mayor general Ion Ceban said the bactericidal recirculators are welcome primarily in the context of the new wave of COVID-19 that is forecast by doctors.
July 21: The Chisinau City Hall has launched the newspaper “CHIȘINĂU” as a means of informing the citizens about the implemented projects and the work done by the local public authorities. The monthly newspaper “CHIȘINĂU”, which now has eight pages, will be available in a digital format and on paper, with a print run of 5,000 copies. The paper will be distributed to municipal public institutions that serve the citizens, to the One-Stop Shop and in public transport.
July 25: The visitors’ access to parks in Chisinau could be restricted after 11pm. Such a proposal was formulated by the administration of the municipal enterprise “Green Areas Association” in the ordinary meeting of officials of municipal services, IPN reports. The enterprise’s acting manager Victoria Covali said the municipality invested large sums in the laying out of parks and all the works should be protected. In this regard, measures will be taken for each park apart and work programs will be adopted for them. Now the access to parks is unrestricted and some of the visitors behave inappropriately. Accessible entrances should be built, but these should ensure greater control.
July 29: About 600 tonnes of waste are daily collected from waste storage platforms in the municipality of Chisinau. This waste is pre-sorted at the transfer station and is taken to the Țânțăreni waste dump. The volume of stored waste increases annually, but the storage capacity of the Țânțăreni landfill is limited. A number of modernization projects to efficiently manage waste are ongoing. “We will have processes similar to the European ones and will meet the best standards in this regard. We will sort 10% to 20% of the waste until the end of this year and will increase the indicator the next few years. The sorted waste will not be taken to the waste dump,” said Ion Ceban. The municipality of Chisinau generates one third of all the waste in the country.
July 29: The project to ensure energy efficiency and to thermally rehabilitate buildings in Chisinau, primarily preschool educational institutions, schools and medical institutions, was the subject of a public debate hosted by IPN News Agency. The experts invited to the debate entitled “Project of energy efficiency and thermal rehabilitation of buildings in Chisinau – current stage, results and future plans” discussed the stage of the works, the buildings selected for rehabilitation, the budget for this project and the municipality’s future plans.
July 30: The Chisinau administration has approved a framework regulation for charity fairs and flea market events, which will take place until the end of the year in different parts of the city. The initiative aims to support socially vulnerable people and charity projects, according to a press release. Charity fairs can be held by non-commercial organizations, regardless of the form of organization. Flea market events can be organized by groups of individuals within the city, according to the place and period established in the framework calendar.
