August 1: The second stage of enrollment of students at high schools in the capital city starts today, August 1. Secondary school graduates can submit applications on escoala.chisinau.md until August 4. After the first stage of admission, 819 places remained unfilled. Andrei Pavaloi, deputy head of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sports, said that at the end of the first stage of enrollment in the tenth grade, the 2024-2025 academic year, 4,427 places were occupied at the educational institutions managed by the municipality, out of the 5,246 available places.

August 2: The social canteen will work in August as well in Centru district of the capital city and will offer hot lunches for 100 needy people, based on lists compiled by the local Social Assistance Division.

August 2: Adults in Chisinau can sign up for the English language course intended for beginners for free. This is one of the most popular courses on the list offered by the Municipal Center for Adult Learning and Education.

August 2: From this September, groups with extended hours will be organized free of charge in the schools of Chisinau for primary school pupils. The costs will be covered with funds from the municipal budget. “The General Division of Education, Youth and Sports of Chisinau has issued an organizational order according to which the principles are to take particular measures to determine the number of groups with extended hours from September. This is done regularly in the first two weeks,” the Division’s deputy head Andrei Pavaloi has told.

August 3: The cleanup company “Autosalubritate” has signed a new contract within the Solid Waste Chisinau Project with the Turkish company LIV MUH MUS INS LTD, which will supervise the recultivation and closure of the temporary landfill in Ciocana district. The construction of a new transfer station with a municipal waste sorting line is also planned.
  
August 3: The General Division of Education, Youth and Sports of the Chisinau City Hall announced that the financial assistance provided to disadvantaged families for preparing students for the new school year 2024-2025 (phase I) was transferred to Moldova’s Post Office.

August 3: The first edition of “DOR de Chisinau” Festival - an event meant to celebrate the Diaspora Days, which is annually held at the end of the third week of August - will take place on August 17. Contacted by IPN for details, Anastasia Foiu, communication specialist of the General Division of Culture and Cultural Heritage, said that the festival highlights the cultural richness and strong connections of the Moldovan diaspora and brings together the diaspora community from all over the world to strengthen ties and share experiences.

August 5: Approximately 200 refugee children from Ukraine applied to be enrolled in the first grade in 31 schools in Chisinau. The General Division of Education, Youth and Sports said that 159 Ukrainian children will attend municipal institutions teaching in Russian, 31 children were enrolled in schools teaching in Ukrainian and seven persons chose institutions teaching in Romanian.

August 5: The results of the second stage of enrollment of students in the tenth grade will be made public on Tuesday, August 6. Then, during August 7-9, the admitted students will go to submit their files to the institutions they chose. At the ordinary meeting of officials of municipal services of Chisinau, the deputy head of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sports Andrei Pavaloi said that the second stage of enrollment of students in the tenth grade took place during August 1-4.

August 5: The municipal services of Chisinau have intensified the inspection of trees in the capital city. Priority is given to playgrounds, courtyards of apartment blocks and parks. According to the municipality, due to bad weather or temperatures above +45 degrees Celsius, the trees dry out.

August 6: The draft regulations on the organization and functioning of parking lots in the municipality of Chisinau will be proposed for public consultations on Wednesday. According to the head of the General Urban Mobility Division Vitalie Mihalache, the draft regulations allow, as a priority, to apply a parking fee per hour, with the subsequent introduction of subscriptions, depending on the needs and possibilities of vehicle owners.

August 7: The trolleybuses running on routes No. 4 and 33 will have a different itinerary during August 9-12. The measure is taken in connection with the closure of Vasile Lupu St, the section between 61 and 28 A Vasile Lupu St, to vehicle traffic.

August 7: Since 2020, the municipality has opened seven new routes and relaunched a bus route in the suburbs. Also, a new trolleybus route was inaugurated in the suburban settlements in the period. A number of 184 buses and 132 trolleybuses were purchased over the past four years and this enabled to fully renew the fleet of the Chisinau Urban Bus Company and the Chisinau Electric Transport Company.

August 7: The second part of the Chisinau Open U19 Beach Soccer Championship begins on Thursday. The matches will be played on Thursday, August 8, and Monday, August 12, starting at 08:00 a.m. The event is hosted by the “Beach Soccer FMF” Arena in “La Izvor” Park.

August 7: The parking lots in Chisinau are to be separated into three zones. The first zone will include the central area of the capital city. Depending on the area, the rates for one hour of parking will be different. In the first area, which is also the most expensive one, progressive rates will also be applied. Payments for parking lots are to be applied between 08:00 a.m. and 06:00 p.m. In the evening, on weekends and on days off, these parking lots will be free. One could also purchase season tickets for various periods, for the reservation of particular parking spaces. This is provided in the draft regulations on the organization and functioning of parking lots in the municipality of Chisinau, which were proposed for public consultations on Wednesday.

August 8: The section of Decebal Blvd. between N. Titulescu St and N. Zelinski St will be closed to vehicle traffic from August 8, 08:00 p.m., until August 9, 09:00 a.m.; on August 9, from 08:00 p.m., until August 10, 09:00 a.m., and from August 10, 08:00 p.m., until August 11, 09:00 a.m. According to the Chisinau City Hall, the measure is taken in connection with the need to carry out works to restore the asphalt layer in the area.

August 8: The 45th World Armwrestling Championship and the 26th World Para-Armwrestling Championship will take place during August 15-25 in Chisinau. The events will involve more than 1,500 contestants, officials and supporters from over 60 participating countries.

August 9: Following the incident that happened on the bridge located on Ismail Street in Chisinau, the circulation of public transport in the area was affected. The Chisinau City Hall said that the municipal services, together with the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, are taking actions to tow the special truck hanging over the bridge.

August 10: The line that delimits “education by beating” from violence is very fine. Domestic violence is used when the parent does not have control over the child, but wants to make him/her react in a certain way, either behaviorally or emotionally. When the child does not give an expected reaction, the parent resorts to the use of force, raises the voice or uses other methods of coercion. This approach is wrong and can traumatize the child. The parent must explain to the child what he/she did wrong and how he/she can remove the consequence. These are the recommendations formulated by Liliana Maximenco, psychologist at the Psycho-Socio-Pedagogical Center of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sports, in connection with the National Campaign for the Prevention and Reporting of Child Abuse and Violence.

August 10: Sixty seniors, the winners from the five districts of the capital city, will meet today, August 10, at the final stage of the Municipal Chess and Checkers Tournament, an event organized by the General Division of Education, Youth and Sports. The “Seniors’ Cup” will take place in “Alunelul” Park, starting at 10:00 a.m.

August 10: Young people aged between 16 and 25 have the opportunity to participate free of charge in the Training Program for Young Facilitators in Non-Formal Education. The activities will take place on August 19-22 in Vadul lui Vodă town. The program offers to participants to familiarize themselves with the notions and principles of non-formal education, to develop the skills of facilitator, to practice tools for planning and designing training programs and to become familiar with methods of evaluating the learning process and results.

August 13: Students aged between 12 and 19 years old from Chisinau municipality have the opportunity to participate in the fourth edition of the short film contest entitled “Through Art in Europe”. The event aims to promote European values and raise awareness of the benefits of European integration.

August 14: Tree cleaning measures have been initiated all the districts of the capital city, on street alignments, in courtyards, parks, alleys and other green areas. The very high temperatures, which have persisted for several weeks, affected the trees, the City Hall said. On Tuesday, in Botanica district, a thick branch broke and fell on a bench on which a woman was sitting with her child in a stroller.

August 14: Chisinau’s water utility Apa-Canal will install 575 wireless water meters in 17 residential blocks. The devices were donated as part of a project funded by the German International Cooperation Agency.

August 15: In the sectors of Chisinau, school fairs are being set up, where school supplies, clothing, schoolbags and other goods needed by students can be found.

August 19: Patients with severe and moderate forms of Covid will be admitted to the Municipal Hospital for Pneumonia, where a ward with 40 beds has been repurposed. According to Marina Buga, deputy head of Medical and Social Assistance, the decision was taken after 453 new Covid cases were recorded in the city last week, by 170 more than the week before.

August 21: The Chisinau City Hall and the waste management agency Autosalubritate signed a contract with the Turkish engineering company Göl Çevre Teknolojileri Ltd to close the temporary landfill in Ciocana sector.

August 22: Teachers in Chisinau face significant challenges, and one of the most pressing is the shortage of qualified teaching staff, which puts additional strain on the existing teachers, said Margareta Sîrbu, president of the Chisinau Education and Science Union, in an interview published on the website of the National Confederation of Trade Unions.

August 26: The families of 8,000 children in Chisinau municipality will each receive 700 lei to help them go to school for the very first time, announced deputy head of Education Andrei Pavaloi during the meeting of the city services on Monday. Pavaloi said that 6,103 children, all from disadvantaged families, already received the money. Another 1,897 first-graders will receive the aid soon.

August 28: A music and poetry show will be held to celebrate the Romanian Language Day on August 31.
