May 2: More than 102,000 students are enrolled in schools in Chisinau, said deputy mayor of Chisinau municipality Angela Kutasevich. According to her, the number of applications to enroll children in municipal educational institutions in recent years has steadily increased and the school infrastructure has to be therefore extended. The functionary noted that there are 150 schools attended by over 102,000 students in Chisinau. Every year the number of requests to enroll students increases and for this reason the municipality proposed to expand the school infrastructure.

May 2: About 70 parking spaces are being set up in the Great National Assembly Square for drivers who will come to the Resurrection Night service at the Nativity Metropolitan Cathedral, the Chisinau City Hall has said. Drivers will also be able to leave their cars on adjacent streets, on street parking spaces.

May 2: The summer season at the Summer Theatre in “Valea Morilor” Park of Chisinau begins on May 19 with a concert dedicated to the late singer Ion Aldea-Teodorovici, who would have turned 70 this year. The deputy mayor of Chisinau Ilie Ceban said that the opening of the theater will take place simultaneously with the completion of the second stage of renovation works.

May 2: Although the municipality of Chisinau has a shelter for stray dogs, a permit from the National Food Safety Agency is needed to capture animals, but its issuance is delayed, said the deputy mayor Ilie Ceban. The Agency’s inspectors went to the shelter for checks, but the permit was not issued.

May 14: The cost of a ticket to day camps in Chisinau for 15 days is 2,550 lei, compared to 2,525 lei last year. Parents pay 20% of the ticket cost, i.e. 510 lei. A 10-day stay at full-stay camps costs 3,700 lei and 20% of the cost is 740 lei. The information was presented by the deputy head of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sports Andrei Pavaloi at the ordinary meeting of officials of municipal services.

May 14: Works to combat pests, including ticks, are being carried out in the districts of the capital city. The municipality also continues mowing the grass on street alignments, in parks, forests and squares of Chisinau.

May 15: Over 2,000 fourth graders from Chisinau municipality speaking other languages than Romanian had the first national test on Monday. It was the oral exam in the Romanian language and literature, IPN reports, with reference to a press release of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sports of Chisinau.

May 16: The municipality designed and implements in Chisinau a number of social programs that support the families. They focus on policies to prevent the separation of children from their families, social protection policies for vulnerable families and the elderly, occupational policies and protection of employees in the labor market, but also policies to prevent and combat domestic violence.

May 17: As many as 24 km of dedicated bus and trolleybus lanes have been created in the capital city during four years since the launch of the initiative. At present, nine streets have “BUS” markings. On these road sections, only trolleybuses, buses, route minibuses, bicycles, scooters and emergency vehicles can move.

The museum’s director Valeria Suruceanu said that a series of activities focusing on artistic education, cultural dialogue, research of Chisinau through art will be staged this year.

May 18: The International Day of Families will be celebrated on Sunday in Chisinau through a series of events and activities. At 02:00 p.m., the Summer Theater Area in “Valea Morilor” Park will host a cultural-artistic event dedicated to the importance of the family and its role in developing a healthy social environment. According to the Chisinau City Hall, the event will start with a series of recreational activities for children, from creative games to art and crafts workshops. At 04:00 p.m., an artistic program with music and dance will start.

May 20: Over a hundred preschool education institutions in Chisinau and the suburban settlements of Chisinau municipality will temporarily close their doors for a period of two weeks to one month. The announcement was made by the deputy head of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sports of Chisinau, Andrei Pavaloi, who said that most of the kindergartens will close in July due to the low attendance rate. The children who will not go on vacation will be able to attend other kindergartens in the neighbourhood.

May 20: On the International Children’s Day, the Zoo will stage the Doors Open Day. Admission for children of all ages will be free. Chisinau mayor Ion Ceban announced this at a meeting of officials of municipal services, highlighting the municipality’s investments in the rehabilitation and modernization of the Zoo.

May 22: After five years of the founding of the Chisinau Municipal Youth Center, a new information and support center for young people was opened. The Youth Information Center will work daily, from 03:00 p.m. to 08:00 p.m, on the pedestrian street Eugen Doga. The General Division of Education, Youth and Sports of the Chisinau City Hall said that the center’s mission is to support young people in their personal and professional development, offering them access to essential information and opportunities for growth.

May 22: The International Children’s Day will be celebrated on June 1 in “Valea Morilor” Park. The Chisinau City Hall, together with the Centru district head’s office, prepared a program of cultural, artistic, sports and educational activities that will start at 11:00 a.m. The visitors will have the opportunity to see an artistic and entertainment show by the animation club Mikelino Club, a cryo show, a chemical show, the mascots Bear Bruno and Sonic. Creative workshops, plasticine modeling, painting, a masterclass on mosaic paintings will be held with the participation of children from the placement center “Regina Pacis” Foundation.

May 24: In order to obtain tickets to the summer camps organized by the local authorities of Chisinau, parents will file an application to the educational institution where the child studies. The applications will be processed by the administration of the educational institution, which will inform the parents about the places available in camps, the rounds and the number of available tickets. The clarification was made by the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport.

May 25: The popular beach on the Nistru River in the Chisinau suburban town of Vadul lui Vodă is officially opening on May 25 with festive activities throughout the day. The activities will start at 2:00 p.m. with a musical show by the beach and will last until 10:00 p.m. The lineup includes folk singer Igor Cuciuc, Vladimir Fotescu and the Avanti Orchestra, Mărțișor Folk Dance Ensemble, pop singer Sergiu Țurcanu, and DJ Sergiu Bulgar.

May 25: Chisinau’s Directorate General of Education (DGEST) will install disabled access ramps at four municipal institutions after winning a grant from the Embassy of the Czech Republic. DGEST says that many institutions built in the past face a shortage of wheelchair ramps, which makes access difficult for students and teachers with special locomotor needs. The installation of ramps will facilitate access and improve the educational conditions for all children and teachers in these institutions.

May 27: The works to lay out the square on Colina Pushkin Street are coming to an end. This week, the automated irrigation system that will cover the whole square will start to be installed. Vasile Efros, head of the Territorial Development and Environment Unit of the General Housing and Amenities Division, has told that the project will be completed within a month.

May 27: The second edition of the Chisinau Sports Festival 2024 will take place on June 8 in “La Izvor” Park in Buiucani district of the capital city. The General Division for Education, Youth and Sports said that this year’s municipal sports festival will include practically all the sports: boxing, gymnastics, kayak-canoe, karate, football, volleyball, basketball and many others.

May 28: The basements of apartment buildings in Chisinau municipality are subject to an extensive process of disinsection and deratization. Last week, specialized teams intervened in more than 300 basements out of a total of 2,500 planned to be processed by November.

During the June 8 event, there will be presented sports offers that children from Chisinau municipality can attend free of charge. The General Division of Education, Youth and Sports said that, the most diverse sports disciplines and schools of the city will be gathered in “La Izvor” Park on June 8, between 11:00 and 17:00. Thus, the parents will be given the opportunity to familiarize themselves with each option in detail and choose the right activity for their child.

May 29: The visitors of the Chisinau Sports Festival 2024, which will take place on June 8 in “La Izvor” Park, will have a unique opportunity to interact with the champions who will represent Moldova at the Olympic Games Paris 2024. The General Division of Education, Youth and Sports of Chisinau said the Festival is a unique opportunity to interact with elite athletes and learn from the best.

May 29: The General Housing and Amenities Division is preparing a project for the improvement of a green space located between Nicolae Titulescu and Sarmizegetusa streets in Botanica district of the capital city. Vasile Efros, the head of the Division’s Territorial Development Unit, has told that this extended green area inside the blocks, which was neglected for many years, will be transformed into an attractive square for residents.

May 30: The Chisinau Sports Festival 2024, which will take place on June 8 in “La Izvor” Park, will bring to the fore a large number of sports schools and federations based in Chisinau. The General Division of Education, Youth and Sports of Chisinau municipality said that these institutions play an essential role in the training and development of athletes of all ages, offering high-quality courses and training in various sports disciplines, such as football, athletics, swimming, judo, gymnastics, etc.

May 30: The teams involved in the cleaning of the capital city, under the management of the General Housing and Amenities Division, worked uninterruptedly during the night as well to deal with the consequences of the heavy rain that fell on Wednesday afternoon. The public transport stations and sidewalks were meticulously cleaned and a significant amount of sludge was removed from underground passages.

May 31: Moldova’s kayak-canoe champions, Sergey Tarnovschi, Daniela Cociu and Maria Olărașu, will be present at the Chisinau Sports Festival 2024, which will take place on June 8 in “La Izvor” Park in the capital city. “Their exceptional performances earned them multiple medals and international recognition, and in 2024, these champions will proudly represent our country at the Paris Olympics. They are the symbol of dedication and excellence in sports, inspiring us all through their tenacity and altruism,” said the General Division of Education, Youth and Sports of Chisinau.
