The Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” is for holding snap parliamentary elections in Moldova. The party’s secretary general Ion Terguță said the election of a new Parliament is the “perfect solution”, but such elections cannot be organized in the nearest future. “This Parliament is the emanation of the oligarchic state and you know very well in what conditions it was elected. It simply does not have sufficient resources to complete its duties. We have to now find methods to extend this period as an elastic band so as to reach the legal terms when snap elections are possible,” Ion Terguță stated in a public debate titled “Snap parliamentary elections and/or replacement of Government: probability, risks, benefits” that was organized by IPN News Agency.

Ion Terguță said the Party of Socialists also wants snap parliamentary elections now given that the economic crisis and the effects of the pandemic haven’t been yet fully felt in society.

“Igor Dodon knows very well that there are two former partners of his who count his days. These are Plahotniuc and Shor. We see this dispute on TV every day, with more direct and terrible threats and the snap elections are the only solution for Dodon. The Party of Socialists surely wants them. They are now on the peak. The economic crisis hasn’t yet developed and the pandemic crisis also didn’t reach its apogee,” he noted.

He also said that MP Andrian Candu and Ilan Shor make effort to change the configuration in Parliament by attracting MPs from the PDM. They tried to also attract some of the Socialist MPs.

“Candu and Shor are trying to take more from the Democratic Party and to grow. In Nisporeni, the Shor Party didn’t exist because Plahotniuc prevented this from extending there. Currently, the Shor Party is creating a local organization in Nisporeni, alongside the Candu group. This is only an example of the use of resources by Plahotniuc and Shor who aim to reconfigure Parliament,” noted the secretary general of the PPPDA.

Ion Terguță expressed his regret at the fact that they didn’t make use of the declaration on the usurpation of state power at the right moment. “That was probably the worst moment in the government of the ACUM Bloc as those situations were allowed to perpetuate,” he stated.

The debate “Snap parliamentary elections and/or replacement of Government: probability, risks, benefits” was the 134th installment of the series of debates “Developing political culture through public debates” that are supported by the Hanns Seidel Foundation.
