Ion Sturza says Domneasca Forest incident is an example of collective cowardice

“It is collective cowardice,” ex-premier Ion Sturza said, referring to the December 23 hunting incident in the Domneasca Forest, where a man was wounded fatally. In the program “In Profunzime” on Pro TV channel, Ion Sturza said the employees of the law enforcement bodies who knew the legal procedures hushed this case up as they wanted to protect their careers, Info-Prim Neo reports. “I may be harsh, but it is collective cowardice, starting from those who organized the hunting and ending with the so-called VIP hunters who didn’t show bravery and serious attitude to the incident, but decided to cover their backs. They hushed up a crime, but committed another crime that has a moral component too,” said the former premier. According to him, it will be hard to prove what happened that day in the Domneasca Forest because somebody took care to prevent the collection of evidence. It will be hard to establish something in several months. As to the creation of the parliamentary commission of inquiry into that incident, Ion Sturza said he was skeptical that this commission will carry out investigations into this case. It will rather make only political appraisals. He also said that the actions related to this incident may generate early elections. “All this hatred will explode at a certain moment, in several days or several months. I think that all the main players already work out election campaign strategies. Even if this is paradoxical, everybody is interested in these early elections,” stated Ion Sturza, adding that only the external pressure can prevent the three ruling parties and the opposition party from pursuing this goal.
