Former Prime Minister Ion Sturza said that in Moldova there is no politics in the classical meaning of the word and that politics became a very costly business. He made such a statement in the program “Interpol” on TV 7 channel, IPN reports.

“The apogee of this business is witnessed in the electoral period. In Moldova, which is the poorest state in Europe, the politicians invest the most in a seat. For a vote, our politicians spend at least €20, while for a percentage of the poll, a party spends at least 2.5 million lei. These are figures determined based on official data. In reality, the costs are tens of times higher. This was the reason why I refused to enter Moldovan politics. To obtain a plausible score in elections, I would have needed €45 million, but I do not have such money,” stated Ion Sturza.

The ex-Premier said without fabulous investments in elections, it’s impossible to obtain something. “Nobody hurries to campaign for a party in exchange for at least €500, even at the lowest level. When Yanukovych was in power in Ukraine, there were exact taxes. Becoming an MP in a certain region cost €220,000. In our country this tax is much higher. In the case of the Party of Socialists, it’s known where it has this money. This aspect in the case of the other parties, including the Liberal Party, is not clear,” he stated.

According to Sturza, the situation in Moldova can be changed by the way of revolution. “The situation in Moldova can be now changed only with pitchforks. The oligarchs will not leave by themselves because they invested very large sums of money. A solution is for these to stop stealing and to start work, but this is less probable. An iron hand is needed, which would also limit some rights for a period,” he stated.
