Ex-Prime Minister of Moldova, businessman Ion Sturza said he aspires to no executive post and does not want to become the leader or even the member of a party. Moreover, the former politician said he will refuse any proposal to return to politics. He made related statements in the program “Politics” on TV7 channel. It has been rumored lately that Ion Sturza may take over the management of the Liberal Reforming Party, IPN reports.

“Many consider that I’m ready to become the leader of any party in order to return to politics. I want no post in Moldova. But nobody can prevent me from stating my opinion and from gathering people around me, even those who represent civil society,” stated Ion Sturza.

Referring to the situation in the region and what Moldova can do, the businessman said the country’s economic partners are 50% in the East and 50% in the West. “We are an element of the game of the large players and not much depends on us. In such tumultuous periods as now, we need greater political will,” he underlined.

Ion Sturza considers the worst decision that the Moldovans can take is to stage protests similar to those in Ukraine because, in such a case, the West and the East will try to save Moldova and the country will be lost. “Moldova has no other way than to maintain good relations with Russia. Today’s situation does not enable us to make a choice,” he said.

He also said that judging by what is going on in Chisinau, an absurd situation mat thwart the signing of the Association Agreement with the EU. However, he voiced hope that Russia will be busy with its problems and will leave alone Moldova, which will sign the accord sooner than scheduled.
