Ion Munteanu was nominated for the post of acting prosecutor general based on a decision taken by the Superior Council of Prosecutors on Tuesday, IPN reports.

Contacted by IPN for details, the head of the Council’s Protocol, International and Public Relations Service Eugeniu Roșca said the decision was taken because the law on the prosecution service provides that the post of prosecutor general cannot be held on an interim basis for more than 12 months. When this period expires, the Superior Council of Prosecutors decides if the acting prosecutor general should remain or another person should be proposed.

Ion Munteanu is the acting deputy head of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office. The President of the Republic of Moldova is to accept or reject Ion Munteanu for the post of acting prosecutor general.

“I thank Mister Dumitru Robu for his work. I highly appreciate the results he achieved and I hope a lot that he will take up a responsible job in the prosecution service,” Minister of Justice Sergiu Litvinenco posted on Facebook.

Recently, it was a year since Dumitru Robu took over as acting prosecutor general following the suspension of Alexandr Stoianoglo from the post of prosecutor general.
