The authorities in the Republic of Moldova did everything possible for the case of the seven Turkish teachers who were expelled from Moldova to gather dust so that the people forget about this case, Ion Manole, executive director of the Promo-LEX Association, said in IPN’s public debate “Two years of expulsion of Turkish teachers. Lessons learned and lessons to be learned”.

“As we can see, the politicians maximally avoid the subject. In reality, the whole responsibility is borne by them, those who took actions then and those who now ignore this case, break the law and do not perform all the procedures in this case,” stated Ion Manole.

According to him, in two years of the expulsion, society and individuals separately showed cowardice and fear. “We were indifferent to those who suffer near us. We didn’t overcome this stage and remained as coward and fearful and indifferent to the pain of those who are near us. But we will be unable to rise to the level of a modern society without overcoming this state of affairs”.

Ion Manole noted the people didn’t learn something from the past deportations, the events of April 7 and allowed impunity to prevail. Those to blame of these illegalities weren’t punished and were accepted by society. No one admitted, regretted, apologized. The state of immunity encourages the violation of the law and these phenomena discourage the citizens who later chose to migration.

He considers the solution to indifference as a problem of society resides in education, which can help overcome abuses, misinformation or manipulation promoted by those who are in power.

The public debate “Two years of expulsion of Turkish teachers. Lessons learned and lessons to be learned” was the 150th installment of the series of debates “Developing political culture through public debates” that are supported by the Hanns Seidel Foundation.
