Political commentator Corneliu Ciurea argues that announcements made during Ion Chicu's visit to Moscow demonstrate Russia's openness to the current Government. However, the commentator specifies that if Prime Minister Maia Sandu had made a visit to Moscow, then she would have been met with more pomp, for she was expected there. Corneliu Ciurea says the Chicu Government, which was supported by the Socialists, managed to get the green light from the Russian Federation at once, IPN reports.

Furthermore, the commentator maintains that Russia does not always do certain things without a vested interest. "Some say that Russia has a certain interest in Chisinau International Airport, others say in Giurgiulesti port. Russia is taking steps regarding the Cobasna ammunition, which is a very sensitive subject. All these issues will require political support and will reach the Parliament, but in the legislature there is still a pro-West majority,” Ciurea says. Thus, it will probably be impossible to continue the positive trend with Russia because there is an unofficial majority in Parliament that will prevent this.

Alexandr Stahurschii, a member of the Center for Research and Strategic Reforms, believes that the visit to Moscow was necessary and had to be done a long time ago, given that several issues had to be discussed. Also, Alexandr Stahurschii is not very optimistic for in the last seven years, since the last time a Moldovan prime minister went to Moscow, a lot has changed.

Former Deputy Prime Minister Alexandru Muravschi hopes that announcements made during Ion Chicu's visit to Moscow will have continuation. In his opinion, the current government will not make clear anti-Russian statements that will allow Russia not to keep its promises. "The Moldovan side, in the current composition of the Government and the Parliament, will demonstrate rational behavior, refraining from anti-Russian statements and I believe relations will develop normally," said Alexandru Muravschi.

Earlier this week, Prime Minister Ion Chicu paid a visit to Moscow. On his return, the prime minister stated that in the next period major Russian private investment projects would be initiated by the Russian Federation. It was also announced that the purchase price for gas delivered by Russia would be lowered and a credit line worth about half a billion dollars would be launched.
