The president of the Party of Development and Union of Moldova (PDCM) Ion Chicu considers the attempts made by some of the parties to restrict the vote of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova depending on the voting preference are unacceptable. The ex-Premier said such things cannot take place in a democratic and correct society. By a press statement, he called on the politicians, representatives of political parties to renounce any kind of manipulation and urged the responsible authorities to ensure equal, nondiscriminatory conditions for exercising the right to vote freely and unrestrictedly, IPN reports.

“It is regrettable that, instead of formulating proposals for bringing home the citizens who were driven away by thieves of billions and other “success stories”, the politicians resort again to division practices so as to engage the diaspora in new disputes and to use it in narrow party interests,” he stated. According to Ion Chicu, each citizen of the Republic of Moldova, no matter where they are – in the European Union, Russia or on the left side of the Nistru – has the right to vote and the state is obliged to ensure conditions for benefiting from this right.

The statement was issued after the Central Election Commission maintained the number of polling stations that will be established abroad for the July 11 snap parliamentary elections at 139, as at the previous elections. The proposal to increase the number to 162 polling stations was short of votes.
