Former prime minister Ion Chicu, who ran for President on behalf of the Consolidation and Development Party (PDCM), demands to annul the results of the October 20 presidential election and the runoff election. In a news conference, he announced that he made such a request to the Chisinau Court of Appeals, IPN reports.

Ion Chicu noted that the presidential election was not free and democratic and was rigged, and the electoral bodies, including the Central Election Commission, violated his rights as a candidate. His mates from the PCDM, during the election campaign and on election day, monitored the work of the electoral bodies, detecting multiple violations in this regard.

"I come with this call and this information, as a former contended in the October 20 presidential election and I make this appeal because the central electoral body, the Central Election Commission, did not ensure the conduct of a free and democratic election and the result was rigged. Respectively, I consider that my rights as a candidate and the rights of the citizens who supported me, as well as of other candidates, were flagrantly violated by the CEC and other lower electoral bodies," said the PCDM leader.

According to Ion Chicu, his party and other election contestants filed appeals on election day, which were to be examined and resolved on the same day, as provided by the electoral legislation. However, the electoral bodies allowed the law to be violated fragrantly and did not examine the facts about the commission of violations.

The former prime minister said that the complaints about the illegal acts committed by representatives of the election contender Maia Sandu, the PAS candidate, were not examined. It goes to the use of the administrative resource. "Both the CEC and the other hierarchically inferior electoral bodies, through the politically subordinated electoral officials, although they were notified and their intervention was requested to restore legality, allowed the illegalities to be committed," stated the former candidate.

Thus, Ion Chicu requested the court of appeal to fully annul the CEC decision of October 23 on the centralization of the presidential election results and on the organization of the runoff election. The politician stressed that he expects a legal decision from the Chisinau Court of Appeals, not a politically dictated one.

In the presidential election, Ion Chicu won 2.06% of the vote.
