Schemes had been implemented in Moldova and continue to be implemented. Most of the times, these refer to the management of state property. Such schemes were applied at Metalferos, Moldova’s Railways and Moldovagaz, Prime Minister Ion Chicu stated in a video interview for IPN News Agency. According to him, Moldova has a lot of work to do to improve the management of state property and things can be changed if an efficient approach is adopted.
According to Premier Chicu, schemes were applied at the time of many governments. There is an IMF report showing the underground economy in Moldova represents 40-50% of the GDP. In 2019, we have a GDP of about 215 billion and the underground economy is thus equal to 90-100 million lei.
He expressed his regret at the fact that the law enforcement agencies didn’t take appropriate measures to collect evidence about embezzlements at state-owned enterprises.
According to the official, the salaries of the employees of Moldova’s Railways were two-three months overdue. A new director was named there two weeks ago and now the salaries are paid from the internal reserves. It happed so because the business entities with which Moldova’s Railways worked took all the profit and the enterprise always remained with losses.
Ion Chicu also said that during four months of the appointment of the new director at Moldovagas, this managed to identify internal reserves of 2 million lei. Now Moldovagaz does not have debts to the gas suppliers even if the gas this year was bought at a price that was by US$ 70 higher than last year and the internal tariffs weren’t adjusted.
