Commenting on the situation related to the debts accumulated by Moldovagaz to Gazprom, Ion Chicu wrote:
“The (right bank’s) debt of US$444.1 million (without calculated penalties) was formed as it follows:
- US$39.3 million (8.8%) – in 2006-2007;
- US$394.1 million (88.7%) – in 2011-2015;
- US$10.7 million (2.4%) – in September 2021;
- No new debt was accumulated in 2016 – August 2021...”.
“So, US$394.1 million was accumulated in 2011-2015, which is in the period when the current rulers of the state were ...in the Government. Maybe this is the reason why the Russians demand that they should repay the debt now?” Ion Chicu wrote, without giving names.
On October 23, Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spânu on his Facebook page wrote that in the recent discussions held in Moscow, Dmitry Kozak, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office, Elena Burmistrova, Gazprom Export director general, and Nikolay Shulginov, minister of energy, formulated an offer that included the repayment of the historical debt during a limited period of time.
