“As long as I am the Prime Minister, the Government of the Republic of Moldova will not report to the thief who stole billions,” said Premier Ion Chicu, reacting to the Pro Moldova group’s request to immediately call a special sitting of Parliament where to question the Premier and ministers. According to Ion Chicu, Pro Moldova leader Andrian Candu was one of the architects of the theft of billions of lei in the autumn of 2014, IPN reports.
“Reporting to such an individual means offending a whole country. I’m convinced that the current administration of the Prosecutor General’s Office, in close cooperation with the competent bodies of Latvia, with which we agreed to form a joint team for investigating this crime against Moldova’s people, will bring the thieves of billions to justice,” Ion Chicu posted on Facebook.
In another posting published on May 20, the Premier says politicians, presidents and prime minister will yet exist, but he does not know if there will be another prosecutor general like Alexandru Stoianoglo.
“This man started to work as a man with respect for the country and the taken oath should work. The real investigation of the bank theft of 2011-2015 started only in December 2019, when Mister Stoianoglo took over the Prosecutor General’s Office. This does not suit those who stole billions. Attempts to discourage Alexandr Stoianoglo and to even remove him from office already started to be made. It is naïve to think that such a man can be influenced, bought, stopped, especially because the country decriminalization and de-oligarchization process is irreversible and does not depend on the “political will” of the beau monde of Chisinau,” he wrote.
Ion Chicu also said that he discussed with Latvia’s ambassador in Chisinau and was assured that the joint investigation team will start work soon.
Pro Moldova parliamentary group leader Andrian Candu in a TV program said the current Government led by Prime Minister Ion Chicu didn’t appropriately manage the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic situation in the country. According to him, this Government is inefficient and it obeys President Igor Dodon. He noted that the dismissal of the Government will be possible only after an anti-crisis plan is worked out.
