The mayor general of Chisinau Ion Ceban rejects the idea of creating a political party or of becoming involved in politics in the near future. He said the solving of the problems of the municipality of Chisinau is his top priority. He voiced hope he will have productive cooperation with the new PAS government, but if this does not happen, he will continue work on his own, IPN reports.

Ion Ceban said that this year he avoided getting involved in the election campaign in favor of PSRM as he decided to focus exclusively on the problems of the capital city. He regularly takes party in the PSRM’s meetings as these center also on problems that refer to the City Hall and the Chisinau Municipal Council, but he does not intend to become involved in politics soon.

“Chisinau now has the largest number of projects that are implemented for the second consecutive year. During a period of ten years, there hadn’t been so many projects as those that we are implementing at present,” Ion Ceban stated in the talk show “Secrets of the Power” on JurnalTV channel.

The former leader of Our Party Renato Usatîi earlier said that Ceban was to take over a political party or to create his own party, but the mayor of Chisinau deines such an idea.

“I don’t have time for other things now. What I’m doing now is aimed at strengthening the team and at meeting the expectations of the residents of the municipality. Chisinau has the highest development pace in the country despite the political and financial difficulties,” stated Ion Ceban.

After earlier Ceban stated that he wasn’t on friendly terms with ex-Premier Ion Chicu, he now says he banks on better cooperation with the new executive and the new parliamentary majority.

“80% of the MPs live in the municipality of Chisinau and the problems faced here are common problems. I will invite them to solve these problems together. I hope we will have correct communication for the benefit of the inhabitants. If not, we will bank on our forces,” said Ion Ceban.

Ion Ceban was backed by PSRM when he ran for mayor general of Chisinau in November 2019. Even if he announced that he renounced membership in the party, Ceban campaigned in favor of Igor Dodon in the presidential elections of 2020.
