Mayor Ion Ceban, who is running for a new term in office, said that as long as he holds mayoralty, he will oppose the central authorities’ intention to build a waste dump close to Stăuceni commune of the municipality of Chisinau. The candidate of the National Alternative Movement Party informed about this in a news conference, IPN reports.

The mayor expressed his dissatisfaction with the fact that there is no clarity as to the waste dump that the government intends to build about 1 km from the commune. “The people invested enormous sums in their houses and yards and I don’t think the offered solution to take all the waste collected in Zone No. 4 of the Republic of Moldova to Stăuceni is a good one. As long as I will serve as a mayor, I will oppose this initiative and I know how to do it. But the mayor of the commune should also oppose it. I know that Ion Onța, who formed part of the initiative group and collected over 3,000 signatures together with the group, can guarantee this,” stated Ion Ceban, noting that they can refuse to issue permissive documents and can physically block any movements in this direction.

Ion Ceban also spoke about the financing and co-financing provided by the municipality to different projects in the 18 suburban settlements of the municipality of Chisinau. It goes to investments of over 740 million lei for about 120 projects that refer to educational institutions, health centers, street lighting, rehabilitation of heating systems, water supply and sewerage, sports infrastructure, public transport stations, etc.

“In accordance with what the people suggested, we oriented the investments to those directions. We didn’t make a difference between mayors, mayor’s offices, localities and people. We financed everyone depending on the needs of the suburban settlements,” stated the mayor.

Ion Ceban was elected mayor general of the municipality of Chisinau at the local election of 2019. He is now running for a new term on behalf of the National Alternative Movement Party he head. He will be next to No. 16 on the ballot, as it was decided by draw.
