A commission of inquiry will examine the medical care provided to a premature newborn who died one week after birth at “Gheorghe Paladi” Hospital in Chisinau, IPN reports.

The decision to set up a commission of inquiry was taken following the accusations brought by the child's mother, who claims that the medical staff did not provide the child with the necessary care.

According to representatives of the hospital, the pregnant woman, who had chronic health conditions, was admitted to a number of medical institutions where she was recommended to give birth in a level III perinatal care unit, but she rejected the recommendation.

"On January 11, 2025, the woman gave birth prematurely, at 32 weeks, to a baby girl weighing about 2,000 grams, by caesarean section. The newborn was permanently supervised and received treatment according to the diagnosis. However, on January 26, at 5:50 p.m., the condition of the child suddenly worsened and she suffered cardiorespiratory arrest. Despite resuscitation maneuvers, the baby died," the hospital’s representatives said.

They also said that both parents agreed to the autopsy, being informed in advance about the time when this will be conducted. Subsequently, on January 31, they stole the child's inpatient record from medical staff and the 112 service was therefore called.

The investigation is to determine whether the medical assistance provided to the newborn was adequate or whether irregularities were committed in the treatment and supervision process. The commission will clarify the responsibilities of the medical staff involved and will provide answers in this case.

The investigation is to be completed in 2-3 weeks.
