INTERPOL refused to include the ex-leader of the Democratic Party (PDM) Vladimir Plahotniuc in the list of wanted persons and decided to remove the data about him from the organization’s database, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
The decision was taken in the last session of the Commission for the Control of INTERPOL’s Files that was held in Lion during June 29 – July 3, 2020. This decided that the maintaining of the data about Vladimir Plahotniuc is not compatible with Interpol’s obligation to ensure efficient cooperation between the police authorities in the spirit of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The PGO said it will ask the International Police Cooperation Division of the General Police Inspectorate to explain the reasons for such a decision as the Commission didn’t argue it.
Depending on the response that will come, the PGO will decide the reaction method. Meanwhile, it continues to administer the evidence and will provide additional arguments in each case of refusal on the part of the partners so as to persuade them that the accused is one of the beneficiaries of the banking fraud.
A month ago, Moldova’s PGO requested the responsible authorities of the U.S. to extradite the former leader of the PDM Vladimir Plahotniuc so that he could be held accountable in Moldova.
Concomitantly, the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office issued the U.S. authorities with letters rogatory, asking to take a number of criminal investigative measures, including in relation to property owned by Vladimir Plahotniuc on the territory of the United States.
Vladimir Plahotniuc was listed wanted after the prosecutors charged him on three counts – founding and managing of a criminal organization, large-scale swindle and money laundering.
