International Poetry Festival “Grigore Vieru” to be held in Iasi, Chisinau and Cahul

The artistic events that will bring together the beauty loving public from Moldova and Romania at the 15th International Poetry Festival “Grigore Vieru” include performances of music, poetry recitals and book launches. The festival will take place in Iasi, Chisinau and Cahul during May 16 -19, IPN reports.

A concert titled “Letter from Bessarabia” in memory of Grigore Vieru will be staged in Romania’s Iasi on May 16 and May 17. It will involve actress Daniela Nane, composer and singer Nicu Alifantis and Fragile Band. Poets Ștefan Mitroi and Gheorghe Mihai Bârlea will hold a conference titled “Grigore Vieru, poet and tribune of the Romanian space”. There will also be mounted a colloquium and book launches.

In Chisinau, the festival is opened at 10am on May 18 with a poetry recital and laying of flowers at Grigore Vieru’s bust on the Alley of Classical Writers in the central park of Chisinau. A scientific conference entitled “Grigore Vieru: Sunday of Romanian Worlds” will be held at the Academy of Sciences of Moldova by academicians Mihai Cimpoi and Theodor Codreanu starting at 11:30am.

A Festival Awards Gala will be staged at the Teacher Training University “Ion Creangă” at 6pm. There will also be held a performance featuring soprano Claudia Caia of the Bucharest National Opera House, actor Nicolae Darie, People’s Artist Nicolae Gribincea and the folkloric ensemble “Plăieșii”, singer Oleg Spînu, who competed in “The Romanians have talent” contest, student artistic groups.

On May 19, the festival will move to Cahul. A poetry and music performance “Requiem for Grigore Vieru” will be held at the “Nicolae Botgros” Palace of Culture starting at 11am. This will involve students, literary cenacles and artistic groups from Cahul district and from Romania’s Braila municipality.

The International Poetry Festival “Grigore Vieru” is organized by the Cultural-Scientific Center “Grigore Vieru” in Chisinau, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Moldova, the Culture Division of the Chisinau City Hall, the Iasi Mayor’s Office, the Iasi Cultural Association “Feedback”, the Teacher Training University “Ion Creangă”, the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, the Cahul General Education Division and the National Children’s Library “Ion Creangă” in partnership with the Romanian Cultural Institute “Mihai Eminescu” in Chisinau, the Iasi National Athenaeum , the Cahul District Council and other institutions and organizations.
