The sixteenth edition of the International Poetry Festival “Grigore Vieru” will be staged during May 28-31 in three localities – Chisinau, Singerei (Republic of Moldova) and Iasi (Romania). During the Festival, there will be presented eight recently published books dedicated to the life and work of Grigore Vieru and a volume of poet’s poems translated into Ukrainian, IPN reports.
In Chisinau, the Festival will be opened on May 28, at 10:00, with a recital of poetry and laying of flowers at the bust of poet Grigore Vieru on the Alley of Classical Writers in the central park of Chisinau.
On the occasion of the event, poets Doina Uricariu (U.S.), Daniel Corbu, Valentin Talpalaru, Liviu Apetroaie (Iasi), literary critics and historians Theodor Codreanu (Huși), Daniel Cristea-Enache (Bucharest), Diana Vrabie (Iasi), writers Olguta Creangă Caia (Târgu Neamț), Sava Bogasiu (Buzău) and other important personalities will come to Chisinau.
Starting at 11.30, a literary-artistic performance entitled “And the soul is poetry” will take place at the branch of the National Children’s Library “Ion Creangă” inside “Licurici” Theatre. At 14.30, the Academy of Sciences of Moldova will host a scientific symposium entitled “The poetics of love-longing in the creation of Grigore Vieru”. The first day will end at 18.00 at the Center for Culture and Art “Ginta Latina”, with the performance “Variations on the theme of the poem “With blue eyes”: In memoriam Grigore Vieru” and the Festival Awards Gala, which will involve singers Radu Dolgan and Cristofor Aldea Teodorovici, Camerata Chisinau Municipal Chamber Orchestra, and actor Nicolae Jelescu.
On May 29, the Festival will take place in Singerei, at “Nicolae Iorga” District House of Culture, which, starting at 12:00, will host the performance “Grigore Vieru – The Verb of Light” with the participation of students and artistic bands from Singerei district.
In Iasi, a series of special events will take place during May 30-31. Among them are the conference “Grigore Vieru, poet and tribune of the Romanian space”, the performance “Letter from Bessarabia” dedicated to poet Grigore Vieru, with the participation of the Great Union Choir, actor Nicolae Jelescu and musician Vali Boghean with his orchestra, the conference “Religiosity of Grigore Vieru’s poetry” and other notable events.
The International Poetry Festival “Grigore Vieru” is organized by the Cultural-Scientific Center “Grigore Vieru” Chisinau and the Cultural Association “Feedback” Iasi, in partnership with the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Moldova, the Romanian Cultural Institute “Mihai Eminescu” in Chisinau, the Chisinau City Hall, the Iasi City Hall, the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, the State Teacher-Training University “Ion Creangă, the National Children’s Library “Ion Creangă”, the Iasi National Athenaeum, the Writers’ Union of the Republic of Moldova, the Writers’ Union of Romania - Iasi Branch, the Center for Culture and Art “Ginta Latina” Chisinau, the Singerei District Council, the High School of Creativity and Inventions “Prometheu Protalent”, the Lyceum of Modern Languages and Management, Kindergarten No. 25 “Floricica”, the Chisinau Theoretical Lyceum “Mihai Viteazul”, Inamstro Company and Purcari winery.
