The Youth Organisation of the Liberal Party staged a protest on December 12 designed to suggest the initiation of mass protests. A press release from the Organisation says that the protest was held in reaction to the abuses and illegalities committed by the law enforcement bodied that removed the Christmas tree from the Great National Assembly Square at the central authorities’ order. The protesters placed a symbolic small fir tree in the place where the Christmas tree once stood with baubles conveying such messages as “Right to Personal Freedom”, “Right to Security”, “Right to Free Expression”, “Freedom of Thought, Conscience and Religion” etc. Representatives of the civil society, Chisinau Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca, the Chisinau Municipal Council chairman Mihai Ghimpu and the president of the Liberal faction in the CMC Corina Fusu took part in the event alongside the about 100 protesters. By this protest, which was intended to suggest the start of mass protests, the Liberal Youth sensitises the general public to the seriousness of the incident related to the Christmas Tree and expresses its dissatisfaction with the abusive removal of the fir tree installed by the Chisinau City Hall in the Great National Assembly Square on December 10. The Human Rights Fir Tree placed in the Square is the symbol of a new year in which the fundamental rights and freedoms will be guaranteed and observed, the communique of the Youth Organisation of the Liberal Party says.
