The official development cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and Germany and the “micro-projects” of the German Embassy in Chisinau are presented on an interactive map that was launched in Chisinau on Thursday. The portal Germany4Moldova provides an overview of Germany’s official bilateral development cooperation as well as smaller, local projects funded by the German Embassy, IPN reports.

The interactive map was presented in an event staged by the Embassy of Germany in the Republic of Moldova, the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and KfW Development Bank.

Germany’s Ambassador in Chisinau Margret Uebber said that the 30th anniversary of development cooperation between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of Moldova is celebrated today. It goes to a constructive and open exchange for a better future of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. It is also an occasion for taking stock of closed and ongoing projects.

As of 1993 until 2022, Germany has provided bilateral development assistance to Moldova in a total amount of €193.2 million, as well as an extra €150 million to help Moldova mitigate the impacts of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. “Moldova’s status of an EU accession country, granted in June of last year, serves as a joint strategic orientation and gives further momentum to our cooperation. We are firmly convinced that we belong to the European family together. Therefore, Germany will continue to support Moldova on its path to becoming a full-fledged member of this family,” stated Ambassador Margret Uebber.

Attending the launch, Deputy Prime Minister Dumitru Alaiba, Minister of Economic Development and Digitization, said that Germany is one of Moldova’s main European partners on its path of European integration. “We go with firm steps towards the EU and know that our partner, Germany, stands by us on this path. Germany is also an important economic partner of the Republic of Moldova. The German investors really change the communities in our country together with their presence. Thousands of families have a source of livelihood owing to the German investments,” stated Dumitru Alaiba.

GIZ Moldova Country Director Claudia Hermes said that GIZ, by the implemented projects, together with the Government of Germany, responds to the necessities of the population of the Republic of Moldova. GIZ implemented multiple economic development projects, offering this way support and creating opportunities for investment. “We speak about the local public authorities, civil society. We work for regional development and focus a lot to offer this legal framework, to connect different agents, etc. We also support the Government and civil society to prevent corruption, support the communities and the refugees from Ukraine,” noted Claudia Hermes.

The Head of KfW Chisinau Office Sergiu Guțu said that it comes to contribution to creating and modernizing accessible public services. “Since 2005 until present, the total value of the closed and ongoing projects implemented through the agency of KfW exceeded €100 million. This is money provided in the form of grant funding by the German Federal Government. Over 400,000 citizens of the Republic of Moldova already became direct beneficiaries of the projects to modernize social infrastructure on both sides of the Nistru River,” stated Sergiu Guțu.
